A roguelike campaign
Three acts, fifteen floors, three warlords to bring down. Battles, elites, shops, treasures, events and campfires: the road is yours to draw.

Chess goes on campaign.
A tactical roguelike where every battle is a game of chess: on boards trapped with lava, ice and teleporters, with an army of painted miniatures that grows, earns its stripes… and falls.
Free test build · Windows and Linux · Release notes
ChessRogue keeps the rules you know and sets them on a campaign table: a map to unroll, fortresses to bring down, squares that burn, slide or teleport. Every run is different, and every piece matters.
Three acts, fifteen floors, three warlords to bring down. Battles, elites, shops, treasures, events and campfires: the road is yours to draw.
Lava, ice, teleporters, webs, rivers… More than twenty square effects and some thirty modifiers turn every move into a gamble.
Your pieces earn chevrons, get promoted and enter the chronicle of your run. And your king is none other than your commander.
From the guided tutorial to a tournament with friends, there is always a game waiting for you.
the heart of the game
Pick your commander, recruit your army and cross the Moss Plains, the Frozen Marshes and the Volcanic Lands. Relics, battle orders and veterans: every run tells its own story.
six opponents
Pip the Drummer, Dame Berthe, the Baron, Master Compass, Morgane the Fury and Aliénor the Constable: each has a style, an opening repertoire and a miniature on the table. Your Elo rating tracks your progress.
and your own mistakes
Hand-made puzzles, and the ones taken from your own games: the analysis spots your blunders and has you replay them until you master them.
your laboratory
Place the pieces, paint the squares, add modifiers, then play against the AI or two players on one screen. Capablanca 10×8, fairy pieces, King of the Hill, Three-Check…
with friends
Classic chess, competitive Chesslike with a hidden formation, round-robin tournament under the tent or battle royale. As a spectator, bet on the tables; at the end, ask for a rematch.
with the Cartographer
A guided run in seven chapters: the Cartographer teaches you chess, square effects and the campaign, at your own pace. No prior knowledge needed.
Act I · The Moss Plains
The Cartographer unrolls the act's map, your quill draws the road and your miniatures follow. Every stop is a choice: battle, elite, shop, treasure, rest or event.
Battle
Squares that burn, slide, teleport or trap; pieces that are armored, explosive, vampiric or spectral. Icons and colored rings tell you everything at a glance.
Between battles
Buy recruits, choose your relics, keep a battle order for the right moment. Your surviving pieces earn chevrons, then a promotion.
Solo game
Six painted miniatures, six playing styles, more than two hundred openings. The AI thinks on all your cores and can slip up like a human… unless you face the Master level.
Online
Host a game through Steam or on a local network. Tournament tables stand under the tent, spectators bet on the outcome, and everyone reacts from their chair.
Every effect, piece and relic joins your Codex as soon as you meet it.
The test build is free. Unzip, launch, play: nothing to install.
